What the hell is up with that? Are they trying to take attention away from Stevens? (duh, of course)

10. The House Rejected Boehner's Effort |
|
The House rejected Repub Minority Leader Boehner's effort to censure Chairman Rangel for his use of rent-stabilized apartments in New York 254-138, with 34 members voting "present," an unusually high number.
Rangel recently came under fire for using House stationery to solicit donations for an academic center that bears his name, and it subsequently was reported in The New York Times that he had four apartments in a rent-stabilized high-rise. Repubs tried to make a corruption case out of it, claiming the owner of the building was giving Rangel something of value, that is, lower rent.
I haven't seen the breakdown of the vote by party, but I suspect some of those voting "present" were Repubs who didn't want to vote against Rangel but also didn't want to go against Boehner either.
And yes, it absolutely was an attempt by Repubs to distract attention from Republican Sen. Stevens' indictment and the "not guilty" pleas he entered today.
