Can this be repaired as opposed to being replaced? |
|
I gently collided with a frozen snowbank and ice/snow tore a hole in the underside of my rear bumper. That's not the primary problem. I now have a decided schism (not a crack) in the actual bumper.
Will I have to buy a new bumper altogether or can the two sides of split be melded back together? The parts fit together without a problem.
Just wondering before I seek estimates.
Thank you very much in advance.

I looked it again. I'm pretty sure it's a replacement job.

3. Actually, they can repair those pretty easily these days. |

Following the rough idea behind Bondo, they now have ways to fix tears, cracks and holes in those sorts of bumpers. Matter of fact, here in Florida there's a chain called Carsmetics that specializes in it (not an endorsement, just an example).
That said, it would be worth getting an estimate on the repair, and at the same time seeing if there's a "you-pull-it" type of junkyard near you that will sell you a bumper. Find out what it would cost to remove the old bumper, affix the new and match/spray the area. Always good to compare.
Good luck!

BTW, misery loves company I suppose.
I learned that cars from this area (northern NJ) have been hitting frozen "snowbanks" and wrecking their bumpers too.

7. Good news/could be better news |

Carsmetics has a franchise or two in NJ according to online sources. But apparently they aren't up and running and you get voicemail when you call.
So I'm searching now for a similar service. I'll let you know what I find when I find it.
