Anyone else wonder about Technorati rankings?

I've read several blog posts by people who think the major news outlets (NYTimes, CNN, etc.) are manipulating technorati.com's hourly rankings.

I think this is entirely possible because scomments (spam comments) are also search variables. Otherwise, "Ipod" wouldn't ranks so highly as a blog post subject.

Also, when I research a topic for the DU Blog Box column, I find lots of spam "blog" posts in technorati search tag results.
