the calvary is the army that went after the "Indians", Calvary units still exist (I believe first cav is an artillery unit). Thus the slang instead of enemy territory they say Indian country.
The military has a lot of its own slang. Maybe if other folks have differing opinions they'll post. Personally I do not take it as a slight on Native Americans.

it just amazed me to hear the boys talking about the iraqi people in that way. all in all, war sucks, occupation of another nation sucks, killing sucks. that's all
