I found my great grandfather in the U.S. census (1900)!!! It states that he was born in Tennessee and that his mother was born in "Indian country", father born in Ireland (my aunt found this record and thought it said "Iceland"! lol!).
Where would Indian country have been in 1900 if you were born in Tennessee and your mother was born in "Indian Country"?
My mother always said they were Cherokee/Choctaw but I've never found a single record of any of these relative until I found my great grandfather in the Tennessee census of 1900!
Needless to say, I'm rather excited as I've been searching for them for many years.
Any ideas on this?
Thank so much!
