UND Indian Association head resigns over nickname

The president of the UND Indian Association resigned Monday, telling board members he feels the organization is uncomfortable that he does not oppose UND's use of the “Fighting Sioux” nickname and logo.

Christopher Peltier, a UND junior who's an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, said UNDIA members knew his stance on the logo when he ran for president.

Since then, he said, the nickname issue never came up in board meetings. But, in private conversations, board members and others made him feel he was not the right spokesman for the organization......
