:hi: everyone that is here (where is everyone anyway?).
I recently got this set of DVDs. They were made by Kevin Costner.
It is a total of 5 DVDs and has a fairly good account of Indian history from the beginnings as known.
I'm not yet finished watching all of these DVDs but I find them to be pretty darn good!
I know that lots of native people don't like Kevin Costner but if you can get beyond this, I would recommend this set of DVDs.
Last night I was watching the one about the early invasion in the southeast c. 1650 (or so). It was pretty interesting and also, needless to say, extremely sad. :(
Anyway, I just thought I'd post this info. FYI as there are so very few of these types of DVD sets devoted to Indian history.

....with or without Kevin Costner. I saw those a while back on the Discovery or the History Channel, can't remember which. I think they are extremely well made and very informative, compared to some I have seen.:hi:

:hi: I still haven't finished watching all 376 mins. of the DVDs. It also comes with a "bonus" interactive CD that you can use on your computer. This bonus CD has an alphabetized listing of different tribes on it, including the "Caddo Indians" in Louisiana - a group that could perhaps be that of my own Mother as she was born in Shreveport which is in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. I'd never heard of the Caddo Indians, have you?
I do not dislike Kevin Costner personally. He did a fine job on putting this set of DVDs together (lots of very hard work). I heard they were supposed to be released the day some other tragic event occurred here in the USA.
In any event, it is a  all the way for me. I hope to watch the final DVD of the set this weekend. :)

.....but I do not know much about them at all. Don't know about the release date - VHS release was supposedly April 26, 1995, the day Baseball Season resumed after a long strike. DVD release was September 21, 2004 - nothing comes to mind on this one......other than that, I have no clue.

It helps much! I found out who my Indian ancestors are yesterday. A band of the Western Cherokee. They are located in Arkansas.
The ones that were in Arkansas left there and ended up in Texas which is just a leap to Caddo parish in Louisiana. Whether they were in anyway related to the Caddo people I am uncertain.
That is a very interesting link with lots of info. too. I'll print that one out for certain.
Thanks again!

| 7. Cosner is only the host |

and executive producer, he didn't put it all together, just gave it his name. I have the set of 500 Nations DVD's and have bought them for my family as gifts. The research and photographs are excellent. The researcher was John M.D. Pohl, and the interviews with the living were great. The whole series is absolutely stunning, in spite of Cosner. ;) I highly recommend it along with "Dreamkeeper" a Hallmark production which is THE most incredible film I have ever seen. Also given away as gifts to my grandchildren.
