After 15 page-turners - Skipping Christmas, A Painted House and Bleachers are not included in that description - readers expect to find smart people figuring their way out of bad situations. These are folks who refuse to be victims. We like to think we could be survivors, too. And we are greedy: we like a satisfying closure. The Innocent Man is a rude welcome to the real world...
