The Peterson death penalty and the Blake verdicts were posted on DU, and the usual suspects had to chime in with their "who cares" comments. Boy that pisses me off!
I'm quite aware of all that's going on in the world today, I am allowed to also care (or at least be interested in) the other developments in California. Goddamn elitist snobs! :grr:

multi-task? That cracked me up. I too, while being in many ways a dumb blonde, can multi-task. I can do True Crime, Baking, LBN, GD-ugh-, State, etc. I don't need to read everything & I certainly don't feel it necessary to respond to every post, but I can keep up with what's happening & can even carry on a couple of conversations. Tell the ones who want to discuss it to come over here.:)

I get tired of the purer-than-thou people who show such disdain for anything that doesn't fit into their idea of worthy topics. I don't normally go into threads that I have little interest in, and I certainly don't go in and disparage folks for being interested in it.
Case in point: the 20-some "Gannongate Wrinkle" threads. I couldn't give two shits about that topic, so I stayed the hell out. I didn't go in there and tell those people that they are nuts.

...if they keep annoying you, the two of you will combine your interests in True Crime and Baking.
And invite them over for brownies and coffee...
I don't know how anybody can NOT be interested in this stuff.
Prowling thru a used bookstore recently, I came across a reprint of the 1886 Professional Criminals Of America.
This was one of the first collections of mug shots/bios, compiled by Thomas Byrnes, New York City Chief Of Detectives at the time.
Is it political? Oh, you betcha! Despite the title, Detective Byrnes was only interested in criminals working the wealthier parts of Manhattan and Wall Street. His book has a lot of bunco artists and con-jobbers...female and male.
He didn't care too much if you were robbing the immigrants on the East Side or the working stiffs in Brooklyn.
(And fittingly, he lost his job in a political wrangle.)

if it is who I think it was, I don't really give a crap about certian TV shows and/or sports teams, but I would never go onto a thread about it to complain.

I think some people put on the "cool" act. You know...I don't care about that stuff... But I bet they are the ones watching it on the news every night. I knew when I posted the Blake verdict in the lounge that I was opening myself up, but I don't give a shit..lol. There are a lot of people at this place and there are bound to be people who need to say what they want to say for whatever reason they need to say it.

today was a bummer so those of us who want should be able to lighten up with other interests. Either that or go shoot ourselves over how crappy dumbya has made the world. I for one appreciate this forum & have got together a great list of books to read from other suggestions.

Also through my years of reading true crime books I have learned a lot on many subjects. I've learned things about law, courts, judges, lawyers, forensics, police, homicide detectives, (Who I believe are some of the most dedicated, overworked, unappreciated people alive.)(the homicide detectives that is).
I've learned a lot about geography and the ways of places I've never been because of the many different locations these crimes take place.
I've learned about the inter-actions and secrets families from the poorest to the richest have. Also and to me most important, I've learned much about the murderous criminal mind and how psychopaths don't give a rat's a$$ about anyone but themselves and killing means nothing to them.
Very important also, is you learn they come from every walk of life and race, good looking, or not so good looking. It has helped me to warn my children to be aware, not live in fear but be aware that you can't just trust someone because of how they look or their manners.

Man I get pissed when I read things like that. I mean, there are some pretty smart folks here on DU, and I think most of us are more than capable of having more than one thought in our heads at the same time. I'm a pop culture junkie, I can't help it. It doesn't mean I'm stupid, ill-informed about "important" things or have my priorities mixed up. It just means I have a life outside politics, like any healthy person.
