We want all the posters we can get. I dicussed this forum with another DUer, mitchum, a long time ago, then got so busy I never asked for it. Then BTK was snagged and I thought, "What the hell? Let's do it."
And here we are.

| 5. How did you get into TC? |

I borrowed "The Cases That Haunt Us" by FBI Profiler John Douglas and since then I haven't stopped. I am a very prolific reader, mostly history and true crime, and I tear through this shit like a hot knife through butter.

Well, a long time ago, I found a book in our garage called, "A Death in Canaan." I was about 10 years old, but I was allowed to read pretty much whatever I wanted. I have no idea how the book got there-but my family read a lot and had tons of books everywhere.
Anyway, this was about 1976. So, I read it and found it fascinating. Then I read a book about a murder in Marin County, CA called "Bad Blood" a little while later, and it was great, etc. Then at our local library, I would seek out books on Jack the Ripper and Lizzie Borden. Here I was, this little kid, reading these gory books, but it never upset me.
So, I suddenly discover I have an keen interest in TC. It was not as popular as it is now, and there were just smatterings of books on people who really stood out like Bundy, Jack the Ripper. Suddenly in the last ten years, TC and the TC market just exploded. I guess there was an unmet need there. I even read crappy St. Martin's Press books when desperate.

her books are so damn good they have really brought about the revolution of this genre!
I noticed "Echoes in the Darkness" was on your fav's list! I read that a few weeks ago. Col. Jay C. Smith and Bill Bradfield were two of the STRANGEST killers I have ever encountered in all of my readings. Especially Smith, whose personal life must have been really, really disturbing. I want to see his picture.
I am now looking for Wambaughs book "the Blooding" which I cannot find. It is about a case in the UK that was the first murder case solved with DNA science.

Smith is one ugly mofo. Really. Wambaugh was not exaggerating.
I still think Smith was involved, although he is now free.

I really don't think Smith is exonerated. Martray was by no means the only evidence against this mnan. What about the pin in his car from the girl's outfit?

and I feel that he had something to do with the Reineirts' murders. But, his case was overturned and he was freed and double jeopardy attached.
He had a very good attorney, who also wrote a book on this case.

Who else could have or would have murdered Reinhart? Bradfield had been setting Smith up for months to take the fall, and there was something bizarre going on between them (the perjury, etc.)
Considering the bizarre circumstances of his own daughter's dissappearance, Smith's own criminal ways and the obvious reason Reinhart's body was left to be found ASAP, it was obvious Bradfield was involved, because of the will, insurance, etc and Smith was the most likely person for him to hire for killing.
But killing someone for perjury does not sound like a strong motive. I bet a deal involving the money was made, and Smith would get X number of dollars after he got out of jail for the robbery charge.

it's not gore like a lot of people think - I just find true life far more fascinating than ANYTHING people can dream up in their heads. It's the investigation, the hunt, the clues that I love reading about. :hi:

Real life is far more fascinating than the movies. I have liked TC for a long time. It's one reason I keep cable, so I can see all the forensic shows. Otherwise I would have canceled it a long time ago.:hi:
