They really aren't that fragile, just their life span isn't long enough (for me) and all my ferrets are elderly in ferret time. They also have their specie specific ailments like all things do. The only zoo crew member that might out live me is Harley and he is considered young at 10. Even the cats are starting to be considered older or elderly.
