| If you've been there yourself, you know what this Mother's Day will be like for Keith. |
|
You know what he's going through now.
You still go through it yourself. But the first time is always the worst, and he's having to deal with it so quickly.
It's the first year that you see and hear all those ads, and get all those emails, nagging at you about what you should get for Mom. Get her flowers. Get her jewelry. Get her candy. Send her this card or that bauble.
And the first time that you think "Yeah, I have to remember to...
...oh, no wait...I don't have to anymore, do I."
And it sucks.
And you know that from now on, every year, it's going to be that way.
You'll get used to it.
But it'll never stop being sucky.
Put it this way: If I were the one doing all the ads, my message would be simple. It would be something along the line of: "Mother's Day is coming--and yeah, I know you're thinking 'What a pain in the ass that I have to scramble around and come up with something really nice to show Mom how much I love her.' Well, buck up pal, because someday you won't have to worry about it anymore, and when that day comes, you'll want to be able to look back and say you did a really nice job of it when you did. So..."
Meanwhile, for Keith...
