1. I thought it was a cheap shot. |

Taken out of context, I can see why they thought it was funny.. but I was not amused. Keith was making some serious points about the hypocrisy of the senator, how he is not who he pretends to be. Jon Stewart might not be laughing in a few months. However, the constant change of glasses was pretty damned funny. :)

2. I took him rather literally. |
|
He said it was beneath Keith Olbermann to keep name-calling in his repetoire and to leave that kind of behavior to The Daily Show. Jon Stewart hits hard sometimes.

5. I think I come closest to you, Rev. |

Glasses funny, the rest not so much. I think Jon carps at Keith and Rachel too much even when they don't deserve it, just so he'll look more balanced. And hearing Keith apologize at the end for maybe going over the top too much sounded like he was conceding to Jon in a lovers' spat. Eww. I like my Keith strong and unapologetic...at least in response to criticism this flabby.
One thing I noticed: when Jon quoted some of the supposed terrible and sexist names Keith had called various people, the audience laughed and cheered. Ha. Seems they didn't think those names were so bad.

3. A layered bit, there. More parody than satire, and yet |

Jon's point was that KO by his work has set a high standard that actually makes his delivery subject to some high expectations.
Frankly, KO took me by surprise with his phraseology on that piece. It bordered on the harsh, but he defended the substance fairly well and I agreed with his assertions.
And Jon made himself the final butt of the joke, out of respect.

Jon obviously likes and respects KO, and I do not disagree with Jon's opinion that KO can go overboard at times. There have been many moments during his special comments when I thought it would have been more powerful if he didn't shout or resort to hyperbole.
KO's reaction to it, to me, showed that it was a mutual admiration society. KO even admitted he can be over the top sometimes. Look no further than the opening where KO asks Jon to call him to be on TDS to show that he took no offense.
Looking for a reason Jon would take the time to do this bit, the only conclusion I can come to is Jon truly believes KO is too good to sink to his level to get his point across.
Actually, what had me laughing the most was that Jon kept putting the 2010 glasses on upside down and they said 0102 instead.
