I like to let them sink in and then wait about a half hour before I let people tell me that what I heard I really didn't hear and that THIS is the THE issue/sentence/pregnant pause to freak out over. I even try to avoid the talking heads. At least once before every big speech, someone on the TeeVee tells me that he's a goner if he doesn't say the exact thing they think he should. Usually, after it's all over, everyone decides it was a great speech.
