i found a pain control system that works very good for me.. |
|
it is by Shinzen Young and is called 'Break Through Pain', it is a step by step Mindfulness meditation program for transforming chronic and acute pain.
i have 2 bad disks in my neck.., a real bad one between my shoulder blades that takes my breath away every time i take a breath.. and L5.. my lowest vertebrae is compressing and collapsing, my feet and legs would be completely numb if i couldn't feel pain.. i have carpal tunnel in both hands and wrists, and a Rotator cuff that hardly works at all, the last time i reached over my head i had my arm in a sling for a couple of weeks before i could take therapy. i also have arthritis in my knees and ankles, and a blown arch in my foot, size 16B shoes.
at first i got the tape set.. that really helped, the pain between my shoulder blades is now just feels like a hard warm spot, i am still working on that one..but it doesn't dominate my life anymore, my lower back is under control..
there is a book and CD out, i just got it and haven't had much time since i am moving to North Carolina this week..
i thought i would share this in case there is anyone interested in checking it out, the book is available used at amazon.com really cheap. it involves meditation, which involves some regular effort to get the hang of. the meditative state involves a perceptual state where it mind is active but there is no physical perception.. the program trains the mind to observe pain in a different way.

1. Thanks for the recommendation |

I've read "Full Catastrophe Living," by Jon Kabat-Zinn, which explains some mindfulness meditation techniques (along with some gentle yoga and relaxation). I'd like to check out this book too. I have some similar conditions as you. Take care.

2. I've been doing deep meditation for years |
|
although what came first, the meditation or the Buddhism, I can't say. I discovered meditation when I was a sick kid and nobody would believe a 14 year old could possibly have that old folks' disease, arthritis.
There are guided meditations online at Buddhist sites. If anyone is interested, send me a note and I'll send you the links.
