Apparent inguinal hernia popped up this morning - Any advice? |
|
I have to go to the doc in about a week for annual blood pressure and cholesterol crapola.
I've read some FAQs and such. The thing is about half the size of a golf ball when I cough or strain myself.
I'm pissed. I don't want to have to get surgery.
Does anyone have experience with this condition?

I had surgery. I was awake during the surgery and recovered on schedule and with little pain.

His hernia was probably the result of lifting something heavy.
The surgery for this is not really a big deal. They cut a tiny hole in you, and they repair you with strong mesh so you won't bust through again.
There might be some pain afterwards, but that's treatable and likely won't drag on very long in any case. My dad was given a good supply of oxies and he didn't even need to finish the pills.
If you're insured, probably the soundest reason for foregoing surgery for a non-life-threatening hernia would be if you're a high-risk surgical patient for whatever reason. In that case, there's the corset option.
Whatever you decide, I hope you're not in pain, and that you get better soon!
