vitamin d level norms have been raised. hmmm. |
|
my pcp had tested my vit.d level a while back, not because of my fibro problems, but because my bone density is on the borderline. at the time, the 27 reading was the low normal. i was there today for something else, but my rheumie had recommended that she change my ostio meds, so we ended up talking about this. she says that my level then would now be considered too low. she said endocrinologists that have been studying this now thing that 50 is a better low norm.
so, if you have been tested in the past, and told you were low end of normal, check back with your doc. funny thing about this, tho, is that i was there a few weeks ago for an annual, and this did not come up, even though we talked about my bone density re my spinal fusion. you just gotta watch this shit yourselves.

got the results of the vit d level. in spite of a supplement intake of about 1200 iu/day, it remains at 26. although bone density is increasing, which is good, i am guessing we need to address this. having an ultrasound tomorrow to follow up on a kidney cyst discovered several years ago. checking up on my gallstones, also. they were tiny, but they tend to get bigger. after all that i will see what the plan is here. yum. might lead to feeling better, tho, so on that count, i am happy.

and I'd been at 1000IU of D for quite a long time. I'm now taking 2000IU of it. I'm trying to get out more, but my legs are so weak that it's very hard to get out and do something. And with winter coming, the cold intolerance is going to kick in, and then more reason not to go out. I can't win. And you are right--you have to watch out for it yourself. None of my doctors even noticed the D deficiency until the new diabetic doctor, and I had put myself on the Vit D originally because it was showing up in blood tests as low normal. Doctors can be complete asses sometimes.

4. I'm convinced that there are a lot of chronic diseases out there |

that are really the result of marginal nutrient levels. Did you know that some claim that fruits and vegetables grown with chemical methods aren't as nutritious as organic foods? http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2001/mar2001_report_vegetables.htmlhttp://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/331421_bigfood13.htmlI suspect that cows, pigs and chickens fed a "scientific" diet aren't as nutritious as their free range, grass fed fellows. I know they don't have as much flavor!

but i think the vit d thing has to do with living in houses, working in offices, and wearing clothes.

7. There must be a specific range of light waves that produces Vitamin D. |

Given all the crap we've pumped into our atmosphere, maybe we're filtering out some of those rays.
