soooo...anyone here have to have Iron infusions? |
|
I am getting ready for my second round. For some reason,I can't keep my ferritin level therapeutic.I still maintain it's part of my gastric bypass fiasco.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a routine thing for me now...

1. It might be since you're not absorbing enough through diet. |
|
Be glad they're not the old shots they used to give into your backside, those were terrible.

2. I have had 3 rounds of Venofer in the last 2 years. |
|
Malabsorption issues re: biliopancreatic diversion w/duodenal switch.
They are no big deal. The venofer takes about 20 minutes, I get five infusions over a 2 week period. No nasty side effects at all.

The nurse at the hemo clinic who infused me stated she has seen a lot of post-ops there. My heme/onc said I should just plan on it a few times a year until I go through menopause. It wasn't bad.

That's the only by mouth iron supplement I can tolerate, and for me, it works.
"gastric bypass fiasco"? I have heard those raise hob with getting nutrients.

5. So many people go into weight loss surgery |
|
blind.
Not referencing the OP at all.
I too have had surgery. I had the Biliopancreatic Diversion with a Duodenal Switch. I researched it for 3 years prior to going ahead with it.
I have some malabsorption issues. I was aware going into it that I would. I adequately supplement what I cannot absorb and I eat lots of protein as well. I get regular blood draws and have an amazing support group of fellow Ds'rs.
I have no regrets at all.
