Online support groups for various types of disabilities |
|
:hi:
I follow this page on occasion as I have more than one chronic and very serious health problem(s) myself.
There are these online support groups for these different types of problems. I've tried to participate on some level and I find I end up getting angry and tend to just not go back and participate.
Today I saw the most disgusting post ever. It was from a woman who has basically lost it all from her illness and the fact that her husband, who is also very ill, has not worked since the Fall of 2001 (duh).
She is in a lot of financial trouble. She was advised to file for bankruptcy at once (uh huh) and also to grab up all of those "free" government programs that are out there and that there are "a million of them" and "good luck honey".
Holy shit.
I was tempted to post, "Good luck filing for bankruptcy because you likely won't be able to get those credit card bills dismissed thanks to our lovely, caring Congress and the bankruptcy bill that just went into effect that no longer allows it. And as for all of those "free" government programs, well, I hate to tell you this but, "honey", there aren't very many anymore and no one gives a shit about you as if they ever did anyway to begin with. As for the "free" drugs, those too are now gone for the most part.
Can't enroll in Medicare D because you don't have Medicare to begin with you say? Oh well. Figure it out for yourself they say to her and question her husband's health and why isn't he doing more? Jesus, Mary & Joseph on that one. (forget that sarcasm thing, I can never remember it) so sarcasm (but only to a very limited point).
I stopped before I posted it. I realized I was on foreign turf.
My god how very sad. To think that people with disabilities must face life as it is given to them as it is to begin with is difficult enough. To encase in with lies and stories of help, etc. it so very wrong.
FALSE HOPE WHEN THERE IS NONE IS THE REALITY!.
I guess they will soon all wake up when they are all in this position perhaps, which seems to be inevitable for many disabled persons in this particular boat already.
It is going to get worse.
I see this now and frankly, it scares the hell out of me!

1. I am a reluctant support group leader and tonight I wanted so bad to quit. |

People come looking for help and what I know became obsolete this year. I am going to an MS society seminar on applying and getting SSDI and other help on Apr 8th. I was hoping they might have more answers. MS gets a little more respect than a lot of other equally devastating conditions.
A friends SSDI application of 22 months has been put in limbo. On a judges desk never to be seen again neither approved or disapproved. Even if she gets it the student loan people have their hands out first. Public housing and section 8 are closed.
Did you read about the wheel chair protest in Nashville? They rocked.
The people who mock those in need have been around as long as I have lived. They just have the microphone right now. Part of surviving is dealing with killing them or ourselves and accepting that some times life just sucks and you have to get through those times to better times.

I needed that. I've really found that there are no support groups online unless you run with their "agenda". They will learn sadly.
Personally I am not in a situation where I require financial help but that is not anyone's business really. I get by.
As for SSDI applications, I've heard many different stories of "how". I guess it depends upon the person and what the problem is.
I heard about the people is Nashville. I'm glad they were there for all to see. So often people in this boat are never seen nor heard. They are viewed as apolitical shut-ins, something I am not luckily.
Thanks for the good words. I cannot believe that the people that need help don't realize the reality of it all yet. As you said, no more section 8, etc. Very sad at best. :(
Thanks again.
