1. This is the kind of question I like. |
|
It's also one of the hardest to answer. Dead ball v lively ball, and every other time era v the other. Every time I think I know who is the greatest catcher or short stop or pitcher of all times, I find another greatest catcher, short stop or pitcher of all times. How do the Cy Youngs, Mordecai Browns stack up to the Dizzy Deans, Satchel Paiges, and Andy Coopers? Different times of course, but like Tom Seaver once said, when it gets to that level does it make a difference? Good question, but one that I can't answer.
Anyway, here are my (todays) picks for greatest:
LHP- Sandy Koufax RHP- Martin Dihigo Catcher- Josh Gibson 1B- Hank Greenberg 2B- Jackie Robinson SS- Luis Aparicio 3B- Eddie Mathews RF- Henry Aaron CF- Cool Papa Bell LF- Ted Williams Closer- Mariano Rivera
