1. But if you read Sunday's Strib |
|
it looks like the deal is nearly done for an OPEN AIR stadium. This stadium will be built without even a retractable roof...If they're going to expect us to pay for a new stadium, couldn't they at least do it right this time?

I am really torn about the whole stadium issue. I really do not like giving welfare to rich team owners to subsidize new arenas/stadiums, but I also do no want to lose the Twins.
Unfortunately, the precedent has been set in countless other communities, that it is okay for taxpayers to pay for new stadiums for rich owners. I personally would not be against a user fee slapped on as a per ticket charge to pay for a stadium, at least it would be paid for by the people who are using it.
If the Twins get a new stadium, it definitely MUST have a retractable roof. April and October weather is too capricious to leave to chance. Wasn't it the day after game 7 of the 1991 WS was over that we got 30" of snow?

3. I don't think it was the day after the game |
|
But it was close, within a week or so. The big October blizzard started on Halloween night.
I hear what you say about being torn and a user fee is not the worst idea. I just wonder what the new stadium (without a user fee) will do to ticket prices. Though, I almost choked tonight when on the news they had someone complaining about current ticket prices. I mean, geez, you can get cheap seats for $6.00 (okay, so it's upper deck, right field). Last week I took my nephew and his friend to the game on Wednesday night and they got in for $3.00 each (AND it was $1.00 hot dog night!). Once, just for the heck of it, my nephew and checked out what the cheap seats would cost at Yankee Stadium and I think it would come to $80 for the 2 tickets. Whatever else we may whine about when it comes to the Dome and the Twins - the ticket prices aren't one of them.

5. I heard that same interview! |
|
I had to laugh...Our most expensive seat is like $75 (barring the luxury suites), at Yankee Stadium $75 gets you somewhere in the nosebleed sections. I would venture to say that we have among the lowest ticket prices in MLB.
I am sure ticket prices will go up if we get the stadium, but being that our prices are somewhat low to begin with, the market may not bear them raising the prices too much.

6. I checked my Twins schedule, which is kept right by the TV |
|
and the suites go for $75-$99. You can get lower level, behind home plate for $38.00 and upper deck behind home plate for $17.00. I love the Twins - even unemployed I can still take in an occasional game.

I'm not aware of any rules, but that doesn't mean there aren't some (I still haven't got the infield fly rule straight). It would make sense if there were.

10. I believe it is a ground rule double if it hits a speaker |
|
and if the ball goes up and gets lost in the roof and does not come down (don't laugh, that has happened).

11. My first post was wrong - not ground rule double |
|
here are the strange rules re: speakers and lights:
Minnesota Twins - Metrodome
* Foul poles are in fair territory. Ball hitting roof or speakers in fair territory: if caught by fielder, batter is out and fielders advance at their own risk. * Ball hitting roof or speakers in fair territory shall be judged fair or foul in relation to where it hits the ground or is touched by a fielder. * Any ball that hits the speaker or roof in foul territory is a foul ball; if, however, the ball is caught by fielder, the batter is out and base runners advance at their own risk. * A ball that hits speaker in foul territory and ricochets back into fair territory is still a foul ball; if the ball is caught by fielder, the batter is out and base runners advance at their own risk.
