Rant: Mariners' 2B Brett Boone |
|
Boone has gotten the error bug. The other night he had a ball go under his glove and through his legs, and then tonight he fumbled on trying to barehand a ground ball.
I read somewhere that with Boone, all the Ms have left is the jersey and the contract. I thought that was kind of cold, but now I'm starting to believe it. He's not the same player that he was in '03. (A player hasn't irritated me like this since fumble fingers Russ Davis.)

1. I'm sure liking the meltdown the Rangers are having |

in the top of the 9th though. Two runs, two wild pitches.
Of course, the Mariners are famous for their own late game meltdowns, so I should probably be nice.

2. That was strange,all right. |

He threw both those pitches almost into the third base dugout. Being the Mariners, that was the only way they were able to get that last runner across the plate. Most of them still aren't hitting all that good. Sexson seems to be starting to hit a lot better now, and Ibanez is doing pretty well, but the rest of them need to pick it up a couple notches. Boone is an enigma. He'll make a highlight reel play one inning, then trip over his own feet trying to make a routine play the next. His bat is also really cold of late. Not a good start so far. Isn't this a contract year for him, too?

3. Yeah, some guy on the postgame show was |
|
saying how he thought Beltre was juiced last year because now he's "hitting like Ichiro."
Hey, at least when they get a lead late, they are keeping it. And the starters are working into the 6th, 7th, 8th a lot of the time.
And they're playing great on the road.

4. Yeah, they are improved over last year |
|
when if they had a lead, it was 1 or 2 runs, and Hassegawa or someone would give it up in the late innings. It was good to see Meche go so far into the game. He's pretty much sucked since the season started, and I didn't have too much hope for him today, but he went almost 8 innings. I hope he keeps it up - he was incredible today.

5. Yeah, last year I just got used to it after a while. |
|
I was more surprised when they saved a game than when they blew one.
I am pleasantly surprised by their .500 winning percentage. (Stunned and hopeful would be too melodramatic, right? It's nice that 22 games into the season there's actually still some question about how good they are.
:foolishly delirious about nothing:

6. You know you have played too much fantasy baseball |
|
When you read that a guy has committed an error and you think, "Yeah, so what? That won't affect your team."
