My favorite Uncle passed away last night. He was only nine years older than me (and 19 years younger than my Dad who passed in 2004). He made my childhood lots of fun as I viewed him more as an older brother than my Uncle.
This all happened within one week. My heart is breaking for my Aunt and cousins - one who lives in Singapore and made it home while my Uncle was still conscious . My Uncle loved telling jokes and he loved to party. He was pretty wild as a teen/young adult, but he married and had four kids and made his living as a heavy equipment operator.
Despite my broken foot and hobbling around on crutches, I made it to the hospital on Thursday to see him. I even made him laugh through the oxygen mask and got to tell him that he is my favorite Uncle.
Rest in peace Uncle Norm - you always made me laugh.
I have to add this. A group of angels came into the waiting room while I was there. One was a "patient" - the other her "neighbor" and two little cherubs who were "flying" around the room and smiling at me. The "patient" said, "I'm Loren. Please don't cry." The "neighbor" said, "You know your Uncle is going home. Be happy. Everything will be okay." Then they asked if it was okay to pray for my Uncle and we all joined hands (one cousin and my husband and all of us). It was the most surreal thing that has ever happened to me. There are more details, but this is the gist of what happened.

That you made him laugh was a blessing you can always hold on to.
Talk to him when you need to. He'll hear.

your Uncle Norm one more time. The fond memories will be with you forever. I too feel very sad for his family left to mourn, especially at this holiday time.

He had all of you around him loving him and making him laugh (!!!!--that is the sweetest, coolest thing I've ever heard, to make a person laugh on their death bed). I wish you peace and happy memories. Take good care of yourself.
