. . . I lost my precious son in a car accident. Ironically, We were driving into the next town this morning to pick up some groceries for my mother who just got out of the hospital after having cancer surgery (yeah, when it rains in pours . . .) and I saw a car wrapped around a tree by the side of the road. I just about lost it right there as it brought it all back to me. I just checked the news and this person didn't survive the accident either. I am starting to hate trees . . .
A couple of my son's friends texted his phone a couple of hours ago and left some very sweet messages to him. I texted them back and told them I am sure he got their messages.

I am most sorry for your loss.
And I realize those are meaningless words. It's all I've got.
But I do understand how you feel. This is my two-year anniversary, as I mentioned elsewhere.
I wish we did not share such a calendar date.
Best wishes.

and I just wanted to let you know you're in my thoughts. Your son sounds like a very special young man to have had so many friends that still stay in touch with you. Let them help you through these hard days and nights.
 and a  for your Mom too.

Time is such a strange thing, isn't it? It feels like an eternity since you lost your son, but at the same time, it feels like it just happened. My heart truly aches for you, knowing how much you have suffered. I think your son's friends texting was an amazing gift that was obviously meant to be shared with you. Your son made a difference in this world, and many, many people loved him deeply and still miss him. I hope that their messages brought you comfort as well, knowing that he is not forgotten by those who loved him... and I hope that you feel his presence and his love surrounding you. I am certain that he is with you every day, reaching out to you, and trying to help you as you grieve. What an amazing young man. You are truly fortunate to have had him in your life, and that love, that bond, will never, ever be taken from you. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, Ruth

But, damn, your son had HAS some awesome friends. Their sweet homage brought tears to my eyes. That he had such caring friends speaks volumes about him.
Sending strength in hopes you are not overwhelmed with all the burdens.
