today I have eaten 8 Reece cups and a cup of peaches . . . |

I hate holiday weekends, I really try to do otherwise, I bought the obligatory charcoal and meat for the grill and can't bring myself to doing it. I hate seeing all the excited people and listening to their plans to have family over and grill and swim and whatever else they do this weekend. It just makes me want to yell "at least you have children!" when they complain about all the things they have to do this weekend. Well, there went another Reece cup! Wonder how long I can survive on these things?

Dolly M:
So sorry it's been a bad day for you. At this point, I'd suggest another brace of PBCs. Honest. I mean well. If they work for you, have them.
Best possible wishes,
CE

So I went to chocolate slim fast in the can that was in the fridge, not quite the same but it will do. I made hubby make supper and fried perfectly nice steaks in the pan rather than the grill. Still, I had to eat something besides chocolate. Only one more day to go and this holiday is behind me. I was thinking today if there were some place on earth that is holiday free, I would like to go there and stay. I would still have to contend with the anniversary date of my son's death though so unless I go live under a rock, that probably isn't going to happen.

Christmas holidays in Asian countries. They were the hardest on them and away from Americanized areas Asian countries don't do Christmas. Me, I just learned to do them different, usually quiet. Thanksgiving & Christmas we usually do something for others be it serving a dinner or just helping people get from point A to point B. Memorial Day is always quiet and a day to remember those gone anyway (military background for me), specially since my son was killed on Memorial Day, no matter the date. So like the actual date or birthday I set aside and allow myself to feel whatever I feel, be it reminiscent, tearful, whatever. I do tend to keep in mind all I taught Beau and early on decided I couldn't make everything I taught him a lie so forced myself to live by the same lessons. That means letting myself feel what I feel but not allowing myself to spiral down into self pity. It works for me. Give yourself time to learn, heal and lean on those around you. If you haven't yet you might want to find a Compassionate Friends, they have all been there one way or another and not only can be supportive but really understand.

I cannot imagine your pain Dolly.
I'm not big on holidays anymore either. I've had losses in life but never a child.

6. Many years ago, some then-teaching colleagues |

lost their daughter. It was only two months before Christmas, and they didn't feel like celebrating. The wife was director of foreign students and always made a recruiting trip at some point. That year, she moved it up to late December, and she and her husband spent the Christmas season in Buddhist and Muslim countries like Thailand and Bangladesh, where no one was celebrating Christmas.
It's how they got through the first year.
