Anyone for bike touring in the UK? |
|
Has anyone out there travelled by bike in England/Wales/Scotland? Any favorite places? favorite routes? Good stories? Suggestions? How was it bringing your bike-- or did you rent one? Is camping something that's commonly done? I think I may want to re-visit some favorite spots in the South/Devon/Cornwall but I do love the North too... and I've never been north of Edinburgh, that would be a whole different kind of thing.

About 7 or 8 years ago. Luckily, it was during a drought summer. When rain fell, it was at night or a rest day. I camped everywhere, only staying in hostels in Glasgow upon my arrival and departure. One camp site was full, but when they heard I was on a bike, they said there was always room for bikers. The airline did lose my bike for a nerve wrecking day.
If you ride along Loch Ness, take the western side. Too much traffic on the other. Just don't get eaten by the monster. There's a great ride from Tyndrum to Glen Coe. Just do it from south to north. Short sharp climbs, followed by long, gentle decents.
In all, I spent a month in the saddle.

2. Does it still look like a Frank Patterson sketch? |

I know he drew all that 70 years ago, but some of his scenes make me wanna strap the Carradice to the Raleigh and book passage...
