34 miles, 2 hours and 48 minutes. No broken spokes, either..... |

Hey Lovable! :hi:
Did things backwards, though, I rode the return leg into the wind...Oh, allright, so it WAS only 6 MPH....
Outbound leg was 17 miles in 1:22. I was really flying in a few places. Nice scenery along the river...
Inbound had several hills to deal with, no shade, and I was starting to get a little crisp around the edges in the last leg.
But I still had enough left to clear the Town Limits sign at 14.2 MPH...
I'm really starting to believe in that GU stuff, even if it DOES feel like an orange just blew its nose into your mouth...

I use the goo stuff too, only its a mocha coffee cliff brand, but you are right the stuff keeps you alive on the long ones and its easy to carry. Now that I'm older I bring a banana and 3 packets of the goo for a 35 mile ride. The stuff definately helps. I will have to try the orange, your analogy made me laugh. Pushing yourself helps with distance. I vowed as a cyclist that if I decide to go on a day, Im going (barring lightning). I've been down roads going 9 mph into the wind so I feel your pain. Keep at it brothahh...

2. On pushing yourself... |

Four years ago I had a really bad day, health-wise.
Now, with a whole bevy of health problems, I rode my personal best distance since the stroke... 73 miles in one day.
My goal is to be able to someday do a century ride again, but I am not sure wether I am going to ever meet it. But I will keep trying.
Since one of my health problems is adult onset diabetes, I forgo goo unless absolutely needing it, but I keep the nuts, mx grain crackers, and diluted electrolyte/water mix going in.

3. I handle the goop pretty well with my diabetes. |

the first time I tried it, I thought I was going to get a sugar rush, like slamming down a can of "JOLT!", but I found that the "power curve" is fairly gentle and sustained. I'm definitely putting it in the "Bag of Tricks" for this month's Century Ride. I'm going to eat like a horse on the ride too. The route passes 4 fast food joints, and I'm stopping at them all on the way. I learned after last year that a long ride is NOT the time to work on weight loss...
