I'm going on my first organized bike ride tomorrow |
|
sponsored by a local cycling club. I'm doing a 68 mile route on mostly red clay plantation roads. My daughter and son are going with.
Not to brag, but 14 months ago I was a 260 lb couch potato. I decided to get in shape and return to cycling, a hobby I enjoyed while I was in my 30's.
A large part of my motivation involved my son. He was an avid cyclist until he has seriously injured in the face two years ago. As a result he lost most of his vision. As he was healing, I offered to cycle with him on a two person bike but he wanted to try riding by himself first.
So we ride together and I alert him to any major obstacles and he does fine. Energy is sometimes a problem for him because he is on pain meds so I'm a bit concerned (it's a mom thing) but knowing him, he will surprise me again.
It promises to be a special day.
Added note: I now weigh about 180, pretty good for my height.

Have a fantastic ride and come back and tell us about it!
I wish I was losing weight like that but oh, well -- at least I know I'm in better physical condition. :)

What a story. Sight is so critical. But your support is his sight. Best of luck!
