I've casually considered it over the years but lately, it's on my mind more. I get these aches on the back of my shoulder that I call "stingers" because they burn so much. I have ruts in my shoulders from years of wearing bras. I measured the other day and I wear a 38-F! I'm 51.
Has anyone had any experience with breast reduction surgery? I just got on a group policy and don't know if it's covered but I suspect that pre-existing conditions would apply, right? So I'd have to wait ahile, I guess.
Thanks for any comments or advice! :hi:

1. See a doctor now in order to set up a history, if you can. |

In order for your insurance company to approve the surgery, you probably have to have a history of back pain directly related to your breast size.
I'm large-busted too, and after my son was born I had ballooned to a 38-G. The weight of my breasts seemed unbearable. My gyn asked me about discomfort and pain, and made a very specific note in my medical chart that I had back pain related to breast size, and told me she was doing this on the chance that I might be interested in breast reduction surgery later in life. I was grateful for her foresight. I'm down to a 36DD now, and my breasts seem much lighter than their post-partum days, but I'd love to go down to a C-cup some day.
It's my understanding that "pre-existing" conditions only come into question if you've actually been treated for it before. So, if you haven't already been dealing with this medically, you're in the clear.
A friend of mine had the surgery when she was 31, and though the recovery was difficult, she loved the results.

I've got an appointment next Wednesday with my gyn and thought I would mention it to her. I realized last night when I got the pain in my back again that if I slip my bra straps off, it feels a little better. That's the first it occurred to me that the pains may be related to my breasts.
I have a friend who is only 25 who had it a few years ago and she said it was wonderful. I was so pleased for her that she had it at a young age rather than wait until after years of suffering.
I will do exactly as you said and see what my doctor has to say. Thanks again! :hi:

4. I had it about 26 years ago. |

It was the best thing I ever did. I was in my 30's at the time and had fibrocystic breasts. Lumps everywhere and very painful, especially during my period. I was a 34E. My doctor took me to the wonderful world of 34C. A whole new life.
