DId you ever have what you thought was a true internet friend? |
|
You wrote each other many times a week over a period of years including sending birthday gifts, cards, etc. and then all of a sudden she just quit writing?
First you thought she might be sick or there was something wrong with her family (you are both married with families) but then you saw she was still writing on other social media forums - what would you do?
I hadwhat I thought was very good friend, but then one day she just stopped writing and that was several months ago.
We had no dispute, fight or whatever so I can't imagine what precipitated the break.
I have no intention of getting my feelings hurt anymore by writing to her but I was just wondering if anyone else ever had something like this happen to them. Maybe its just some sort of bizarre internet false friendship thing.

1. Yeah, a distant cousin |
|
We met online, she emailed to get genealogy info. We're related through my grandfather. We emailed all through the 2004 primary, she was Dean and I was Kerry. Then we came together and fought like hell, and then cried together after the lost. We kept in touch for several years, shared family stuff, all sorts of things. We emailed every day almost. She emailed a few times in 2008, tidbits she had heard about Obama from a friend in Chicago, all good.
And then she just quit writing. She's still there because she sends ecards on the holidays, and a couple genealogy things. Otherwise, she's gone.
It's weird, isn't it.

2. Yes. But it wasn't all of a sudden... |
|
We started as friends on a message board and then became email "pen pals" - at least a couple of messages a day. Then it turned into talking on the phone, birthday cards and gifts, stuff for the kids, etc. It wasn't as BFF-y as it sounds, lol. It was just what I thought was a good friendship. This was for at least three years. Then the emails became fewer and fewer. The calls stopped. I asked her about everything but she just said she had been very busy. In the meantime, she still posted on the message board (way back before Facebook!) so then my messages became less and less. Last I recall, I sent her a birthday card and heard nothing. And then my birthday came and went, and xmas with no card, etc. and then it was just the end.
I was just going through some pictures and found some of her kids and I still wonder what ever happened to all of them.

3. Not suddenly. I have a good friend that I met on a bulletin board over 20 years |
|
ago. For years we communicated electronically on a daily basis, called each other occasionally and met face-to-face a few times. We sort of drifted apart after we both got swamped with kids but I still hear from him once in a blue moon. It wasn't like we suddenly stopped speaking. I still like him and think of him but I just don't have as much time as I did pre-kid.
