I have the ugliest razor bumps all over my legs. I've tried all kinds of products & nothing has worked.
Well, I got the new issue of Bon Appetit & there's an ad for a free sample of a new 'miracle cream' that's supposed to take care of it. I emailed for a free sample. I'll give it a go & report back on my success.
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
I'm posting this now because I thought some of you would like to jump in on the free sample. If so, just pm me & I'll give you the info.
I went to the web site & it said people allergic to aspirin weren't to take it.

1. I always make sure to use a new blade every time, and |
|
sensitive shaving cream/gel, and always make sure I have no goosebumps. I have to be really warm to shave. I don't use women's razors, I use the gillet mach 3. Works awsome.
as for bikini, or for myself, I prefer no hair at all, anywhere, I like to use an electric shaver. I cut all my hair down first and it gets just as close as a regular razor, I bought for my husband, and he never uses it. Which by the way I have recently discovered this trick. One sugestion if you do this, is on humid days, or if you just got out of the shower, use a little powder first so your skin doesn't get caught in the electric blades, and to avoid "burns".
I apologize if this is TMI, in the second paragraph.

3. I use the mach 3 also. |

I never thought about the goose bump issue.
I exfoliate really well before & after, but it hasn't helped. Now that I've got them I can't get rid of them.
I'll try this product & if it works I'll follow your suggestions so I don't get them again.

5. I have really sensitive skin, so if I get razor bumps |
|
I have to lay off the razor for a week or so. I would reccommend doing this yourself. Creams and other so-called solutions to razor bumps can actually make the problem worse if you have sensitive skin.

4. I'll try the new 'miracle cream' |

first. If it doesn't work, I'll try that one. I gotta tell you though, I've never been in an adult toy store in my life! I think I'll have to send DH in.:)

6. Razor bumps are often a sign of infection. |
|
They're a minor infection of the hair folicle, so what I've been told to do is use an anti-bacterial soap to wash before shaving to clean off any skin-dwelling bacteria, and to soak for a few minutes or shave last in the shower, when my skin has had time to hydrate and the hair shaft has had time to soften.
I get the worst razorburn when I don't soak or when I try to "dry shave" (i.e. lather up and shave without getting in the shower). Now, if I need to shave, I just plan to do so in the shower.

7. I always exfoliate first |

using a scrub type stuff, but I've never used anti-bacterial soap. I just assumed the scrub would work. I'll definately try that too.
I've gotten some great tips from everone. I'm still waiting for the'miracle cream' to see if I can get rid of them, then I'll use your suggestions so I don't get them again.

9. You may have dry skin, try applying some moisture on your |

legs, better yet your entire body after you bathe.

10. Well I know I'm sort of late to the conversation.. |
|
but I was just browsing around and read this. So I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I use an epilator and never will a razor touch my legs again.
When I first got my epilator it said that afterwhile your hair changes. I didn't really believe that because I had been plucking my eyebrows for years and they never changed. Nor, had that one hair on my chin that I plucked forever.
Well, they were right. At first epilating hurt some but that went away fast. The first year or so I could go about 2 to 3 weeks in between. Afterwhile, I had started noticing my hair wasn't all stubbly and itchy like back when I shaved. My hair become softer and lighter. Then I was epilating more like every 3 to 4 weeks. Now, it's about 5 weeks. It's long enough that you sort of forget about it and one day you take a close look and you have like pre-adolesent peach fuzz legs.
I use to have trouble with ingrown hairs around the bikini line from shaving...not anymore. I love having smooth legs for weeks without the hassle of shaving everyday.
The only downside is epilating is slow. I usually break it up over a couple of days and watch TV or something while I'm doing it. I find it too hard to do it all in one sitting.
The next recommendation I have is buy a corded one first. I have a corded for regular use and a cordless for travel or touch up. Next, don't buy into the ones that are combination epilator and razor. The manufacturer is just trying to make more sales. To achieve the best results with elpilating you don't ever want to use a razor. It sets your progress backwards.
No more razor burn!!

11. There's a product called "Coochy." |
|
It's available from Pure Romance. As you can tell from the name, it isn't made specifically for legs or armpits, but it works great.
