I have been getting hot flashes and night sweats for a few years now. But does anyone alternate between hot flashes and the chills?

3. Yes, it's partly a thyroid condition, coupled with menopause. |
|
Bad combo...ask to have the thyroid levels checked; medication can help.

4. I am already on thyroid medication and have my levels checked |
|
every six months...
That was one of the first things I thought of.

5. Just popped into this forum, KW, and came across your question |
|
I've had the night sweats and chills, too. I can relate. A friend recommended Evening Primrose Oil supplements to help and they have definitely done that. I haven't had night sweats in a loooong time.
I also use a topical progesterone cream daily, during the second half of my monthly cycle, from about Day 12, on. That's also been a big help.
Isn't it a trip getting older?

What makes it truly hellish is having TEENAGERS at the same time we're going through all this shit. Where's the justice in that?!?

7. I have another question - it is not a very delicate one... |
|
My cycle is about every 2-1/2 to 3 weeks now, which would not be a problem, except the first 4 days (of an 8 day period), I don't even dare leave the house because of extremely heavy flow...Has anyone else experienced this...I always run a high hemoglobin, so anemia is not a problem, thank the gods.
My OB/GYN is aware, and we have tried a few different things to lessen the flow. I will be going in for an endometrial ablation in December, to help calm it.

I could not change tampons fast enough. A friend of mine had ablation a few months ago and swears it was the best thing she ever did for herself. Good luck!

10. I've had the same situation. |
|
My cycle is now 22 to 26 days when it used to be around 30 days. And it has always been heavy, too heavy for tampons. As a teacher, I just can't rely on them! I wear the overnight super-duper napkins and still have to change frequently. However, last month, my period lasted a week but was barely there.
I really will be glad when this is all over!

14. Get your thyroid checked too. |
|
I was virtually hemorhagging with my periods for a while last year and had one 20 day period. I did progesterone therapy, which seemed to help a bit. Then I started to have other symptoms. Short story was there was a tumor in my thyroid. Just get it checked because the thyroid can mess up the menstrual cycle.

My daughter used them after she gave birth, said it was a stroke of genius. She got the idea because she works with seniors. I've had a few of those gushers myself, not so much lately. But I certainly know what you ladies mean.

Grrr. Argh.
Usually at about 3:27 am. DH has Butterball butt, is freezing, and I'm throwing off covers.
By 4 am, I'm shivering and under the blankets, trying to seek heat from he of the frozen-turkey-for-a-butt.
I hate hormones.

16. no on hot flashes - yes on night sweats |
|
been getting the night sweats for over a year -- get the chills when I throw off the blanket
more than once I've had to change my t-shirt/jammies because it's soaked with sweat. Usually the sweats kick in right as I'm nodding off
up until December'05 my periods have been regular and normal - but I just skipped Jan and Feb, and this morning I started again
sooooooooo-the ambush periods begin :)

it's impossible to gauge when I'm going to start. The really lovely part is - I have "PMS" for like two or three weeks, bleh.
I've been upping my dosage of Evening Primrose Oil and that seems to be helping all the way around.
