Hi, I don't post on here that often, but do lurk. I'm still fuming about something that happened this morning, and need to vent.
A little background. My father in law lives with us and since I'm a stay at home mom, I spend alot of time with him. Overall everything's fine. He's Fillipino, and generally has petite relatives. My parents are German and I'm average build (5' 7" and about 15 lbs overweight but am now 20 weeks pregnant, so obviously a little bigger, but not getting excessively huge). He's often made cracks about my eating (I am eating ALOT; but I haven't gained that much - about 30-35 total in each past pregnancy) and such. Now, perhaps there's a little jealousy there, as despite my not so perfect diet I have great blood pressure and overall health (as is the case in my family). He, on the other hand, eats well and still has diabetes and bad heart stuff....
Anyway this morning per the conversation we were having, I mentioned how the Pink Panther cartoon aborted my career in ballet when I was 5 or 6, as I didn't want to go to classes because I wanted to watch this cartoon. Haha. What does he say? He says "Ballet, Ballet?" (incredulously). Maybe football." I realize this was meant as a joke, but what woman would find it humerous to be told she was better suited for football than ballet? Keep in mind, I am not some Amazonian beast of a woman. Even if I were.... Maybe my hormones are raging, but it's just burning me up....

3. It sounds to me as if the man doesn't respect you... |
|
may sound "hard" but if he makes "cracks" to a pregnant woman, he doesn't respect you, or woman in general. If it was me, I would have a conversation w/ my husband about his father, he needs to handle him; been married a long time to know when to allow the husband needs to confront HIS family. (Hubby and I have a rule, you handle your family and I'll handle mine). Good luck!

There's a reason I didn't comment to my fil at the time. I knew my hormones were raging, and that he's not a malicious person. I talked to my husband and I agreed with him. That is, that his dad just has poor communication skills and because of the cultural and language barrier (he's fluent, but his English still isn't the greatest) he's often awkward in how he says things. I know him too well to believe that he truly wanted to insult or hurt me. He's just a little weird and awkward. My husband did talk to him privately, however and I know such comments will not happen again. He apologized, and I blew it off. All's ok.
