I quit smoking a little over a year ago when I found out my Dad had lung cancer. It was one of many times I tried to quit and it was the only successfully time.
So, my Dad died a couple weeks ago and I broke off a 3 year engagement. Both of these have been very hard to deal with but I'm doing ok I guess.
The problem is the last couple of nights I have smoked one or two cigarettes when I was out drinking. I feel really guilty and need to stop, but I can't get myself to stop doing it!!!
I just hope I don't start again.

1. I have a solution to that |

Quit drinking. I gave up drinking shortly before I gave up smoking. My chances to quit smoking were pretty bad without drinking alcohol let alone being a drinker.
You speak as if smoking a cigarette is out of your hands. Like you don't have any control over it. When you say, "I just hope I don't start again," you sound as if somebody is going to make you smoke.
You are in control. There is nobody that can make you smoke and there is nobody that can make you quit. It's all you. Take control of yourself.

You seem to be under a lot of stress right now. If you can't resist smoking while you are drinking, then stop drinking. At least until you are through whatever issues you are dealing with that are stressing you out. You know you will regret it if you start smoking again. Don't fuck yourself again by picking up another cigarette. Starting smoking again is about the STUPIDEST thing you can do right now.
Stop giving your hard earned money to those sick fucking bastards. Big Tobacco has been exposed for who they are, they intentionally manufacture cigarettes to be extremely addictive and don't give a shit what happens to you. Fuck them. Stop paying them to KILL YOU! Oh, and 80% of big tobacco's political donations go to REPUBLICANS.

3. You asked for a kick so you are hearing some tough love. |

It's excellent advice, however, and you know it's true. So hang in there and take the steps you need to in order to avoid picking up even one more cigarette.
I'm supposed to meet friends for drinks tonight so you're keeping me straight too. We'll try to be here for you. Peace.

4. Thanks for the advice.... |

I don't think I can stop drinking right now, but I am cutting down a lot.
So far so good though, didn't smoke last night. I will do it, not only can I not afford it but my health will suffer greatly if I start again. I just need to remember that.

I'm going on 9 days now and I'm still fighting off the occasional nicfit. I went from about a pack a day for just over 5 years to 0. I know it's especially hard when your drinking (something I'm not about to give up either).
Good Luck
