What's your favorite way to buy stocks?
*If* you buy/trade, that is.

I've heard good things about using "sharebuilders" and also in going through "Vanguard", but I'm undecided about which I'll use. I'd like to know what everyone's favorite trading method is.

1. I use sharebuilder for now....
they're good for building a portfolio if you are not starting with a lump sum.

however - you only have access to higher-volume stocks - not small ones, foreign-traded, mutual funds or bonds.

I plan on moving my account over to Scottrade.

3. Yep, sharebuilder is dirt cheap but very limiting
It's a good place to start out and if you have under 10K to invest I would suggest Sharebuilder.
But if you are comfortable with trading and have over 10K don't bother with SB and go to Scotttrade. I have heard good things about it, and Ameritrade.

6. Lately? Buy High and Watch 'Em Tank!
Seriously, I use ShareBuilder (I'm a member of a credit union that's associated with them) and it's pretty easy. I do market/limit orders, not monthly orders, but I'm not a super active trader and their fees are about what everybody else charges. There's no maintenance fee for a basic account, or for transfers to/from that account. I just mailed a stock certificate to them on Friday and it posted to my account Tuesday, so I'd say their service is pretty fast too.
