I'm done with Merrill Lynch, what's a good replacement?

I used to have a good five figure brokerage account, but the 00s have brought me several layoffs and an empty brokerage account. Merrill Lynch and I are about to part ways.

Who is a good alternative who deserves my business? I will be starting from scratch, alas.
