Just received 'Demand Notice' from IRS, haven't rec'd before, say they've sent several. They want response w/in 2 weeks. 'Separated' from husb since Oct. '06, negotiating separation agreement now; he's forced me to retain counsel to do so.
Filed and filing jointly, IRS seeking 9000+ from me for '06, no idea why/on what basis yet.
How can they seek from me individually, as we've filed jointly for 25 years. He's prepared taxes.
About to look for tax attorney, but want quick info on 'joint' issue, if y'all have some.
Thanks
E

after divorce. Yeah, stupid. Lost it anyway. But I just ignored them. I didn't have anything anyway. Now I just let them keep the payroll taxes every year, even though I'm poor and could get a refund, and they didn't send me the Bush stimulus checks which they told me they deducted from what I owed. I thought that was nice. They didn't have to do that. One of these days I'll check to see how much I still owe them.
Of course I don't recommend that you do anything like that, but nobody else answered so I thought I would.
