Family Tree Maker & Windows 2000

Does anyone here run Windows 2000 Professional? I found out that my old FTW (version 4.4) is very out of date and I see the latest version for 2008 will install on computers with Windows XP/Vista on them (no mention of Windows 2000 Professional nor Windows 98).

What OS are you using with Family Tree Maker (version ...)? Would appreciate any help with this question.

1. I found the answer

it is Family Tree Maker 16 it seems. Fortunately I found it on eBay for $5.95. The ancestry.com people wanted to give me a "bargain deal" on it for $29.95.

This whole FTM thing it really a pain the arse IMO! I guess we don't have any options but ancestry.com if we are into genealogy it seems.

The idea of paying ancestry.com another $150.00+ for another year of subscription I find difficult at the moment as obviously they make their software so that is will no longer work when the advantage presents itself to them.

What do people with older PCs do that don't have even Windows 2000 I ask? How fair is this exactly?

2. I'm still using FTM 6.0 on my W2K machine

I invested in Master Genealogist as a side program a couple of years ago because FTM just wasn't cutting it. I have a lot more flexibility in Master Genealogist in how I can use and store data and references. But it's interface is a bit cumbersome. I still use FTM 6.0 for those quick, bare-bones look-ups since it's a little easier to navigate.
