| Ancestry.com pricing. If you are a subscriber, make sure you check pricing. |
|
I have had an Ancestry.com account for over two years. My membership is due next month. Ancestry doesn't have the billing amount listed under my 'account info,' so I had to write to them and ask them what amount they were going to bill me. I asked because I had a great rate, $99.95 a year, for the U.S. Deluxe Membership. They emailed me and told me it would now be $155.40. Now hold on a minute. I was told years ago that the $99.95 pricing was locked in. So I called them, and sure enough, the cheaper price is what I will be billed. To make sure, I paid it today.
So heads up. If you were paying a lower rate, it might just pay to make a phone call to make sure you can keep the lower rate. That phone call just saved me $60.00.

| 1. Good advice. Further to this, I just renewed my subscription as well. |
|
I'd been stubbornly hanging on to my "legacy" subscriptions consisting of the US Census and official records and the UK censuses, because I need both US and UK data, and the quoted $299 per year for the World Deluxe membership was a pill too difficult to swallow. Then I realized I was only getting the FreeBMD info on the UK part, so I called them to find out why. Long story short, only the FreeBMD was available through my "legacy" subscription, not any of the newer BMD info that's been added over the last couple of years.
They offered me an upgrade which consisted of 13 months of the World Deluxe membership for $199, with a $99 refund. I was due to renew in a few months at $180 for my old ones, so this worked out better for the coming year.
The most important thing is that it was set to renew at $299 after 13 months, but they said they could set it so that the account would not automatically renew. I'll have to do it manually, but they assured me that there are always promos going on, so I'm likely to not have to renew at the $299. Just something to keep in mind - it might be worth calling them to tell them you don't want your subscription to automatically renew. (They have to put down a reason for cancelling the auto-renew; basically I suppose one might decide one is better off under a monthly subscription one can cancel at any time rather than paying in a lump sum. ;) )

| 2. If you have an LDS family history center near you, you |
|
can access Ancestry.com for free there because of a lawsuit LDS won against Ancestry.

Thank you so much! I really don't feel like forking out $155.00+ for this right now. I tend to not use it very often but like having it available.
Ancestry.com offered me no deals or anything. Hence, I'm doing without right now and making great success btw! :D
There is an LDS a few blocks from where I live.
