| help with an old marriage and scandalous divorce |
|
well, scandalous for my family.
My great-grandfather, William Grady Brooks, (08 Dec 1895 - 24 Mar 1974) apparently had a short marriage and divorce involving a woman named Dolly Powell. This had to happen before his marriage to my great-grandmother, Elsie Louie Bracewell, on 12 Dec 1922.
I've googled this, and scoured the marriage rolls on Ancestry, but no luck. I'm not very good at setting those ancestry searches up. If anybody can find this, we'd appreciate it.

| 1. Where were these people located? |

Sometimes the local genealogical societies can be very helpful. If you'll give me the county and state, I'll see if I can help.

I knew I was forgetting something. He spent most of his life in Bullock County, Alabama (born there, buried there), with one excursion to find my great-grandmother in Texas.
He was in the Army in WWI, as well. All I have on that is a discharge date of 5 Apr 1919.
Thanks.

Dates work. I'm off to FamilySearch.org, then.
Thanks.

| 6. quick follow up question |
|
they were divorced on 15 Nov 1920. Can you think of how I could find out any details as to why? I'm just dying of curiosity at this point.
My mother and I have long been the only divorces in the family, so this was an interesting revelation, to say the least.

| 7. Did you try the divorce records on Ancestry? |
|
I haven't actually looked for any divorces while doing my own stuff so I am not sure how to go about that. Sorry. Maybe you should pose that question as an OP here. Someone has to have some experience with looking up divorce records. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
