what would be the best way to reunite an old photo

with the correct family? i picked up a lot of old tin type photos (to sell on ebay) and one of them has "grandmother chartier" written on it (nothing else identifying). there are genealogically active members of this family on the internet. obviously there is no way to know what branch of the family this photo may beling with, but i'd like to try to get it back to the right family before trying to sell it.

any idea how the best way to go about this would be? there is a message board at rootsweb for the surname. should i just post it there?

any thoughts appreciated.

deadfred.com. I check the surnames there every now and again, hoping to find a long-lost ancestor's picture.

I guess I just get discouraged. They NEED submissions, but there are never enough for me! My people are very few and far between. :-)

4. The surname forums might not be a bad place to start since it's

a fairly unusual surname. I use Genealogy.com/Genforum and rootsweb.com/ for posting, and I get lots of results. You could even email some of the posters and ask them. It's awful nice of you to put in the time trying to find the rightful owners. It's probably a long-shot, but if you find one of them, then they'll surely consider the tintypes to be a treasure.
