Something really strange I've noticed about some of the most insufferable O supporters. |
|
Has anyone besides me happened to notice that some of the most insufferable Obama supporters on this board also happen to be DU's most obnoxious atheists? A certain hooligan that was born again, an appendage that is noodley ..... I know I've noticed others with the spaghetti monster av. These are the DU'ers not simply content to believe what they believe but choose consistently to insult and harangue people who do express faith.
My point is this, what kind of cognitive discord is that? BO gave that southern holy roller tour, talks like a revival minister and has "faith" crap plastered all OVER his website. He can't get himself into enough photographs with crosses in the background and has more than a little bit of the messiah bug.
So seriously, :wtf: I don't get it.

5. I had a whole healthcare post worked out I was going to post on Monday. I had a crash |
|
and I've been a little despondent about that. (That's what I get for not saving my work)
I've been meaning to cook up one about his southern preacher routine too. I think I'll leave McClurkin out of it this time, and just go straight after him.

3. Is the hooligan one of the worst ones? |
|
I don't know-I've had him on ignore since we flamed each other over breastfeeding. (I breastfed my child and he didn't seem to like it.)
I'm not shocked by any means.

But I find it really, REALLY weird that so many of the most obnoxiously adamant atheists on DU are stuck like fly-paper to O, the messiah, the chosen one, and his traveling revival show.

Obama reminds me too much of a sweaty-pit Bril-creme preacher at a tent revival.
I gave up evangelical/charismatic services as soon as I was able, thankyouverymuch. I know what they are like and his rallies remind me so much of them.
Time to pull out the snake. Maybe that's the surprise at the convention!

9. Here's my theory, for what it's worth |
|
The atheist sees an Obama speech that doesn't have religious content, isn't really listening to what he's saying, and is swept up by the crowd going ga-ga. BAM! He's in love! This is HIS candidate (or hers).
Later, he can't even hear religious content, he's stuck in his buying into this guy. That's the very definition of cognative dissonance...you commit to something, and that commitment blinds you to the downsides. Then, the atheist begins campaigning for the candidate, whether officially or just to his friends and acquaintences. To those who disagree, he defends the candidate. After some time he actually denies that the candidate is what he would normally dislike. After enough of this, he actually sees those traits as beneficial. Sure, he has to twist himself into knots to do so, but his commitment and defense of his hero won't allow him to see the candidate as he is.

10. This atheist abhors Obama |
|
As does my agnostic SO.
I'd been waiting at one point for some exit polls that included religious data to come out. I was curious to see if there was any sort of correlation between belief/lack of belief and affinity for Obama. I'd thought perhaps with his preacher-man style, cult-like following, known habit for pandering to evangelicals and the like he might just not appeal much to the non-religious. I had noticed, in fact, that his pandering to the evangelicals was one reason a number of the DU atheists were getting their hackles up about him. Sadly I didn't see what I'd expected in the numbers. He's got the same sort of non-believer numbers as HRC, IIRC.
I don't get it myself.

12. No disagreement from me on that. And how about well-known atheist Bill Maher now finding religion... |
|
...his new-found Messiah in Obama while insulting Hillary on his show ?
That atheist-Obama link IS odd. How interesting an observation!
