Am I the only one? Obama bores me to tears. |
|
Reagan bored me to tears but I understood that other people somehow found him interesting. For twenty five years I tried to figure out what I was missing.
Same with Obama. Intellectually I know people find him interesting/exciting but not me. I have been trying to self-examine why others feel something I don't.
I find people interesting that are crazy with passion about something. For me, being passionate about public policy that works for the common good is the most exciting thing I can witness in a person. Therefore - I find that Howard Dean is interesting, Bill Clinton is interesting, Joe Biden is interesting, John Edwards is interesting, Al Gore is interesting, Hillary Clinton is interesting. Obama is boring.

1. the first time i heard andrea mitchell say that BO is "inspiring" i said to myself, |
|
what? i, too, find obama neither inspiring, eloquent, doted witht he qualities of a leader, or anything else that they are all praising about or for. heck. i don't even find him principled. he is someone who will sacrifice principle to whatever gets the job done for him, whatever means to achieve the end. he frames it in a pragmatic over principle equation. race baiting has one of those. whining has been another. hiding behind whoever skirt, shirt, or excuse has been another. he is just another run of the mill GWB.

2. Hey, you read my mind. I keep saying that O does absolutely NOTHING for me. |
|
Same with Reagan. (I still call Reagan Airport as 'National Airport'.) These two who do not inspire me one whit lack, I agree, a certain je ne sais quoi - what I think you're right in calling 'passion'. So I did like Biden once, I also liked Edwards, and if it was between JE and HRC, I would be in a pickle, choice-wise.
So what is it we're missing that so many others find so exciting in O? Dunno. A puzzlement to me, too!
Of course, I've also said previously that I tend not to follow the crowd in a lot of things and prefer to make my own decisions whether I like/respect something or someone, and I don't really put much store in what most other people say.

Triple H is a WWE wrestler who is married in real life to the head writer (who is the daughter of the guy that runs the WWE), so for a good chunk of time they were pushing him big time. In interviews and promos he is known to pontificate at length in a very boring fashion without really saying anything of substance (granted, "substance" is a relative term when we're dealing with wrasslin'). To the point where other wrestlers will make fun of it (The Rock was especially hilarious about it).

His speech cadence has no rhythm - compare and contrast with MLK, for instance, or even JFK.
O is really an empty suit to me, a wholly manufactured, artificial product sold under false pretences to the public!

Reagan and Obama fit that bill. Bush Jr. is the same way. They end up being kind of nebulous. (I hope that is the right word). Therefor, IMO, boring.

There's a lack of sincerity in their manner that just irks me.
With Bush II, his fatal combination of arrogance, willful ignorance, sense of entitlement and incompetence really takes the cake for me, though.
O is relatively benign, but I see many disturbing parallels between O and *!

I know what you mean, DD... "Intellectually I know people find him interesting/exciting but not me. I have been trying to self-examine why others feel something I don't."
I've struggled with this, as well. I kept thinking, is there something I'm missing? Some of his biggest supporters were posters I'd admired ... and I was left wondering why they were so convinced that he had something that I couldn't even glimpse.

|
I just don't see the so-called 'charisma' that their supporters keep saying they have. All I see are a couple of hypocritical fakes with ambition to spare.
Why did He Who Will Not Be Named immediately run for the presidency (when he also said he'd serve two terms as US senator?)?
And again I ask - what was the meeting with Rove at the White House shortly after his 2004 Dem Convention speech all about? I began to doubt his genuineness already then!

Mrs. Othmar from the Charlie Brown cartoons to me. Mwaa mumwaaa waaa. I have seen people liken his speaking to that of a preacher. I have to vehemently disagree. My Uncle is a Methodist Preacher, with his own Church. The KEY difference between a preacher like my Uncle and Obama......my Uncle believes with the breadth and depth of his soul what he is saying, Obama doesn't. He is trying to sell himself to the American people, using a very carefully and slick sales plan.
