My thoughts on the Obama bots attack on Geraldine Ferraro and Party Unity. |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 11:57 AM by saracat
Geraldine Ferraro makes me certain that no matter what happens I will never forgive them for their behavior. They have literally destroyed this party from within. They have shown no respect, knowledge, or compassion for anyone.Even the way they attack GOP spouses is sick. They make fun of Cindy McCain for her stroke.
Everything is "fair game"in their pursuit of Obamadom. There can never be unity again in this party and many are going to remember this.
I believe that all of this was fostered and developed by Ted Kennedy as a result of his jealousy of the Clintons. If there was not going to be a Kennedy Dynasty , by God, the Clinton's wouldn't get one. He thinks he can wield the "power" or at least appear to if Obama is "king".
Howard Dean has worked with this agenda from the beginning, IMHO. He did everything he could to tee up this primary for O. He is far worse than Terry Mac, who at least fought an election. And I really don't like Terry Mac. But at least he didn't allow whole states to be disenfranchised in an attempt to slant the vote for his candidate.
No, it is going to be a cold day in hell before I join this mob of thugs.

I'm totally sick of it. Yesterday I gave a call to Thurman's office, the chair of the FDP, and I talked to her assistant. I told her if our votes are not counted and delegates seated that many folks would vote 3rd party if she didn't do something about it. I guess it was a minor threat, but, I'm tired of all the fighting going on over florida.

The Democratic party no longer exists for me, if these thuggish elements continue to dominate. I agree with all your sentiments here.

3. I agree - Ted and the other old men who are at the end of their |
|
careers and are trying to remain relevant by denying the awful Clintons this moment. Pure jealousy and no concern for the Democratic party.
I have a question as I know you have worked on a campaign to two. Has Dean allowed the party structures that he has developed in the red states over the past few years to be used inappropriately in the primaries to help Obama? There are a lot of things the state committees can do (that are not fair). They are not supposed to help in a primary but I have a feeling that is exactly what has happened. Particularly when you look at the small states that had caucuses.

5. Well, as my governor literally "owns" the State party in my state |
|
and she broke her own rule never to endorse when she endoresed Obama , I was amazed that Hillary carried Arizona. There was a lot more Hillary stuff generally around but State HQ had a lot more Obama stuff. But I didn't notice any "overt " partisanship. In fact there were many complaints that the Hillary folks were in overkill and obnoxious, and some were.
But we are a closed primary state and she won. As far as caucus go, I have had reports back from several friends who say all kinds of sheneagins took place and some of those folks are sharing their experience with the Clinton campaign. And I have no doubt Dean allowed stuff to happen.
A lot has to do with employee selction in those 50 states and if an operative has a "leaning" and those folks are picked by the DNC???? I have had a problem for years now with some of the DNC staffers that are only there because they are "patronage" apointments.it is only recently some good folks have arrived.

The media and supporters, if I recall, told John Edwards to get out of the way for this historic election!!!!
Hillary is so much more than "just a woman", she's a risk taker, doer and fighter. Would Obama be there if he were white? His background is ho-hum, and no risky votes for him in either Senate.
As one of my friends said "Hillary's the shark, Obama's the bait, I'll take the shark!"

Everything is construed as racist that is the least bit questionable as to intent. Obama has a mighty big chip on his shoulder about racist remarks in reference to African-Americans but seems to ignore his white half and the racism that exists in his personal stance of not liking to be called bi-racial or mixed. Mixed should be proud, I am mixed race and was taught never but never, 'pretend to blend' 'cause it ain't who you really are and you disrespect half of yourself in doing so. That said again, I agree with Ferraro totally. This comment may bother some and if it does, my apologies in advance. Affirmative action has no place in politics, a politician should not use race to his advantage. Obama ignoring his white half and pandering to African-Americans to get their votes does that. He never presents himself to African-Americans as mixed race,he presents himself as African- American.

Like the pol that he is, he uses his black ethnicity to get the black vote (and it's been working, sadly), but what has he really done for blacks in his tenure as state and US senator to have earned their votes? I asked this of one rabid O supporter in a sub-thread, where I pointed out that Hillary speaks to and for women because she has actually done real, documented work on their behalf, and on issues important to them, but I never got a response back.
(Btw, if I paid you a dime for every pithy post of yours that I've read on these boards, I'd be a poor woman by now. Can you share some of those smart, witty and perceptive grey cells with those who have less?
Was that too much of a fannish comment there? :hi: I meant every word, though! Hillary's lucky to have you on her side, too!)

Thank you. I think my perspective is realist with a little pragmatism thrown in. I have had a different life to say the least and have never really considered myself overtly intelligent but, more so blessed with a good dose of common sense and learned lessons in life that gave me 'street smarts'. Pssst - I was a high school drop out ;) but, I did get my GED. Some of the 'smartest' people I have met in my life and by that I mean educated, had absolutely no common sense and very little social skills. Living life and observation have probably been my best teachers.
And as a footnote, while in Chicago poltics, Obama did so little to please his African- American constituents, he was often accused of being 'too vanilla'. That is telling, he pandered up to the rich white pols in Chicago when it benefitted him politically and now, with race a hot issue, he has become the African-American for African-Americans.

I was just discussing this earlier with my eighteen year old co-worker who is a Hillary supporter. He calls himself black and ignores his white half.
the mere fact that he is ignoring his white half is racist in itself. a true hypocrite.

My family was and is staunch backers of the democratic party.
I have moved many times in my life and always made sure I registered to vote.
I cannot believe that I am even considering not voting if Obama gets the nomination, but I am.
The level of hate from the Obama side cannot be rewarded.

for the first time, find myself considering not voting. With the same sort of shock reaction.
Or actually, I'm considering just voting in the down-ticket races. This latest flap strikes me as an attempt to dictate how we can talk, or even think, about Obama.
We've had seven years of an administration quick to call us unpatriotic at any hint of criticism. Do we want to end up with one that answers any criticism--or even analysis--with a charge of racism?

I don't think what she said was racist, but it was stupid and unhelpful.
Dean has his own battles to fight, and Obama gains an advantage from the clusterfuck created by those who wish to take Dean down. It doesn't necessarily mean that Dean is for Obama. He may well be, but at least he has the sense to stay out of the rhetorical crossfire between the campaigns.

20. The Obama campaign's race baiting has been the biggest problem |
|
of this primary. It badly needs to be addressed.
She was brave, not stupid to bring it up.
She was on Jim Lehrer at the same time Bill Bradley was on putting forth his threats to the black super delegates. Why is that not racist? Why doesn't the MSM talk about it? Can't you see by now that they take whatever words they are given and spin them as racist against Hillary? Can't you see that they help Obama and his race baiting?
It continues to get worse. They have been emboldened.
It needs to be addressed.

Did any of you see Tavis Smiley's Black State of the Union?
Look up what Dick Gregory said. I love that forum because you get a chance to see race discussed where it's not possible to discuss it anywhere else. It's fascinating and informative and helps me walk in the shoes of a race that I'm not a part of.
They were able to say the truth...the truth of how they feel, but anyone else has to walk on eggs, cower, apologize, resign... for the same reasons.
We will all pay for it in the end...because when will it be enough? When will it be okay to criticize Barack Obama? Do we want a president that we have to tiptoe around? parse our words? lie through our teeth?
This is the kind of tactics that have been used by authoitarian regimes for years. The only light at the end of this tunnel is that we don't take those who disagree with us out, make them dig their graves, and then shoot them.
I grew up with Black and White water fountains....and I have fought racism and sexism my whole life. But make the accusations count...don't you dare make them for political gain. People say stupid things...call it that. Call it what it is.

19. Don't anyone yell at me but, I think we'd be better off with McCain. |
|
First Hillary, needless to say.
Obama is looking to be more and more the tool of whoever is pulling Bush's puppet strings. I have been thinking for some time that he is Rove's candidate this time around.
Bush has destroyed so much that Rove knows Mickey Mouse could make it as president if he were a Dem. That is why he is running Obama, who will do his bidding.
Obama's ego is all that is important to Obama. There is no way he could have risen so far in such a short time. This makes me think Kennedy, Kerry (who showed his true colors by not stepping up and collecting his prize in 2004) and the others are all in the pocket of the bad guys. They talk and talk but things steadily get worse.
McCain--he may be putting forth an evil plan but he seems to care for the country. He seems like he'd be responsive to advisers who may give him a different picture than what he's proposing now. I even think some sensible military brass could put forth a case on not pursuing his 100 year war. The main thing is that he is probably still his own man, despite the necessary groveling and pandering to the Repukes who are really in charge of the world.
Obama is a lost cause to Dems. We will know for sure during the general, if Hillary doesn't pull it out. I still think she will because Americans know how badly they have been bamboozled and are damn sick of it. She can help us.

I think Obama himself is encouraging this kind of behavior. Look at this excerpt from an email newsletter from Obama:
"But just turn on the news and you'll see that Senator Clinton continues to run an expensive, negative campaign against us. Each day her campaign launches a new set of desperate attacks.
They're not just attacking me; they're attacking you.
Over the weekend, an aide to Senator Clinton attempted to diminish the overwhelming number of contests we've won by referring to places we've prevailed as "boutique" states and our supporters as the "latte-sipping crowd."
I'm not sure how those terms apply to Mississippi and Wyoming -- or Virginia, Iowa, Louisiana, or Idaho for that matter.
I know that our victories in all of these states demonstrate a rejection of this kind of petty, divisive campaigning.
But the fact remains that Senator Clinton's campaign will continue to attack us using the same old Washington playbook. And now that John McCain is the Republican nominee, we are forced to campaign on two fronts.
It's up to you to fight back."
Okay, an aide calling states "boutique" states, Obama sees as "petty divisive campaigning", and "they're attacking you". I'm sorry, but I think that's way over the top.

she does not stop. Others have taken liberty with their own interpretations of my posts and called me a racist.
I am so gd tired of it. The worse thing they can do is to start calling everyone a racist and that is where they think their road to victory lies, it will turn out to be their biggest gaffe.
People do not like to be accused of racism, when they are not racist.
