The Day I Closed My Heart Ramon Piñero 08.16.2003 It was a day like many others, nothing unique about this one, just like yesterday; sun came up sun went down Just another day in the life.
The day I closed my heart was much like any other; Fed the dog; let him out let him back in the house;
Except this day I closed my heart; shut it down; a flame doused with heartbreak and lies.
A day like any other, nothing special; except when she walked by, I felt nothing Nada Zilch Uggatz
That was the day I shut down all emotion; threw it right out into the night never to return.
I loved her once; I could not live without her smile;
Her touch, her loving embrace; were all food for my soul (alimento del alma)
That was the day when the kiss meant nothing more than a peck on a cold cheek.
That was the day I closed it; My heart put up a vacant sign. No one lives there anymore.
It’s not for sale or lease just weeds of lies and deceit broken promises shattered like glass; shards everywhere, watch your step would not want you to fall and hurt yourself.
That was the day; Nothing remarkable about it, except that is was the day I shut the door and left her out in the cold.

| 1. It's weird how life changing events |
|
can happen in a somewhat uneventful way. I've had that happen to me on a few occasions.

I hope this is just a poem and not a life.

off rather on the everyday side, and suddenly takes the reader deeper, and by the end, the shut of the door can be heard.
