A thousand people line the tracks Back to nose and nose to back All standing there waiting to see That old steam train from way back then That took our boys and made them men
And took them away for Hitler's war Oh! We cheered them off And we cried them back Some on foot And some in sacks.
From 'The Railroad'- the book I am never going to write.

I didn't know what to expect, and as my 5yr old eats, drinks, and breathes everything there is to know about trains my heart was light until the second stanza, where the truth of the course of the trains exists.
quite powerful.

My Navy body is a RR buff.
He operates (Engineers) a steam train somewhere in southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky-a tourist sort of thing.
He also has a crew car. Along with a large group of crew car owners we rode the short lines in upper NY State. It was quite an adventure.
