Help Finding a Poem

Can anyone help me find a particular poem. A few years ago I heard the poem. I thought the person reading the poem said it was by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. However, I have not been able to find to poem under Longfellow's name. I do not know the name of the poem, but I know it talk about the hard work it takes to be successful. The only line I remember from the poem is "Young man I did not just fly up to this point". I may have gotten some of the words wrong, but that is mainly what the line says. Does anyone know anything about a poem similar to the one I have tried to describe.

and some of them are really long! "The Song of Hiawatha" is now drumming through my head.

Can you come up with any other hints?
