My Friend Just Fell Off the Wagon - Again - Didn't make it a month |
|
this time.
So where the hell do we go from here. He has probably lost his job - last time they took him back after he was gone and drunk for a week. I doubt that will happen again this time.
This stuff is absolutely devastating. He has lost everything that he ever worked for. Now if he loses his job he will also lose his house. And he is already way in debt.
So, is it best to just let him hit bottom? Is there anyway to help that might really make a difference?
We are all so sick about this. This is a really, really nice guy with so much going for him. And then he gets drunk. It is just awful.

demoralization.
there's nothing you can do. it all depends on his willingness to work a program
as difficult as it is to watch he may have to lose everything and he wouldn't be the first to do so
if he's going to AA encourage him to continue, if he isn't offer him a meeting schedule (do NOT offer to take him but if he asks you can go with him)
if it's really tearing you up, try some Alanon meetings. they can share what they did in your situation
but don't loan him $$$ or cover for his drinking. take care of you and hang in there.

He isn't going to AA. He swore he would the last time this happened. I think he made it to one meeting. I think he just doesn't want to admit that he can't beat this himself.
His family is in there trying to help. I'm just kind of out here on the sidelines watching this whole thing. It is awful.
They pulled him out of his house yesterday and he is at work this morning. So maybe he still has his job. But if this keeps up he is not going to have it for very long.
This poor family is just riddled with alcoholics and drug addicts - goes back generations. I think they are just fighting a huge battle against their own genes.

3. Best thing to do is let him hit his bottom, cause it sounds |

like it wouldn't take long if his family quits enabling him. I know its hard, but thats the way many of us had to go through. As long as our family and friends were still helping and enabling us we would start, again, with the promises about quiting drinking and changing. Good luck,
