Once in an Al Anon meeting, I heard someone say, "When I was a kid, when |
|
something bad happened to me, my family acted like it was my fault for LETTING IT HAPPEN."
Boy, could I relate. Just thought I'd share that with you all.

2. Man, I can relate to that, too. |

As a recovering alki and an ACA, I remember my Dad delegating duties, responsibilities and blame on us. This is while he was still drinking.
Once he sobered up, he did a 180 and started taking responsibility for his actions.
He also stopped blaming others for things that were out of their control, i.e. what you're talking about.
It's all in our 12 steps- we aren't in charge, but we sure ask for direction.
The Serenity Prayer states it best.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Thanks for sharing, we need you.

child, I was responsible for everything. It got really dysfunctional when I was in high school and my parents weren't getting along. I did manage to extricate myself from that family 'role'.
