got me thinking. I can hear AZ Dem sayin now, no THINKING allowed. (not that she would but I've been in aa and that's pretty much what what they say which is why I don't do well in that society)
But. we were talking about weight.
:little thought balloon: so what if. a bit of weight gain teaches us something. I'm a proponent of disease equals opporunity for personal growth.
So being an addict/alcohlic gives us a big freaking growth opportunity?
My sponsor used to call it an afgo. another fucking growth opportunity?
WTF?
So. When you get sober, you get to stop GROWING?
haha . punchin you old timers. Seriously. It never stops. huh? It just doesn't. Right?

Why not? You can keep drinking or go in another direction, which obviously is a better one. So, I'd say that's growing.
"So. When you get sober, you get to stop GROWING?" Uh, just because you're sober doesn't mean your addiction stops. If you're sober 30 years, do you really think that if you had a couple of drinks that you'd miraculously not want more? I know I'll ALWAYS want more, no matter how long I'm sober. So, I'd say I'm always an addict in that sense, even if I may or may not always use that terminology.
That said, I'm a newbie to AA and haven't accepted everything like a religion, but I'm not bashing it either. I know meeting face to face with long time successfully sober people is comforting for me and has helped me stay sober now for 3+ weeks. Not long, but I feel great everyday.

Couldn't agree more RaRa.
Congratulations on the 3 weeks and just for today.

I'm not huge on the one day at a time mantra. I like planning. But, it has helped when I found myself thinking stupid thoughts about future drinking. I would then think, well I know I'm not drinking today, so I'll just leave it at that! :)
